Leeds United star moves, rivals make £23 million double swoop

The summer transfer window is officially here, and numerous transfers have already been completed before it even starts.

Teams will be able to sign players beginning Friday morning as the 12-week summer transfer window begins, with business allowed until 11 p.m. on transfer deadline day, Friday, August 30. However, some transactions have already been done in anticipation of the transfer window opening or present contracts expiring this summer. One of them is a Leeds favourite, while two others feature a £23 million double swoop from a potential promotion opponent. Here, we go over the completed deals so far.

1. Mike Tresor (Burnley)
The 25-year-old Belgian international winger joined Burnley on a season-long loan from Genk in September, and the Clarets confirmed as part of their retained list that Tresor’s transfer had been made permanent. Tresor is thought to have cost the club about £13 million to sign him.

2. Maxime Esteve (burnley)
Similar to Tresor, Burnley announced on May’s retained list that the loan move of 22-year-old France youth international centre-back Esteve from Montpellier had been made permanent, reportedly for slightly north of £10 million.

3. Raphael Borges Rodrigues (Coventry City).
Last month, Coventry announced that they have agreed to recruit Australian under-23 winger Raphael Borges Rodrigues from Macarthur FC for an unknown amount. Many outlets are also saying that the Sky Blues have agreed to buy 21-year-old New Zealand international midfielder Marko Stamenic from Red Star Belgrade for somewhat less than £5 million, but neither club has confirmed the’move’.

4. Corey Blackett-Taylor (Derby County).

Blackett-Taylor, a 26-year-old winger, joined Derby on loan from Charlton Athletic in January and will make the transfer permanent this summer with the freshly promoted Rams. Derby are thought to have paid approximately £300,000 for him.

5. Luke Ayling (Middlesbrough).
The 32-year-old Whites promotion-winning right back will join Middlesbrough on a two-year agreement after his contract with Leeds expires this summer. A free transfer, and a pretty good one at that.

The 23-year-old Panama international defender will join the Canaries from Bulgarian club Levski Sofia for a fee believed to be about £3 million.

7. William Vaulks (Oxford United)
The recently promoted Us revealed this week that experienced 30-year-old Wales international midfielder Vaulks will join them as their first signing of the summer, after his contract with Sheffield Wednesday expired on July 1. A free transfer.

8. Nathanael Ogbeta (Plymouth Argyle).

The Rs announced at the end of last month that 18-year-old Hong Kong-born forward Bennie, an Australian youth international, will join the team from Perth Glory for an unknown amount.

10. Ben Gibson (Stoke City).
As part of an early double swoop by the Potters, experienced 31-year-old centre Gibson will join Stoke after leaving Norwich City. Free agent transfer.

Watford announced in February that the 18-year-old Mali international forward would join the club this summer from Malian side Black Stars FC on a five-year agreement. Mali teammate Ange Martial Tia has said of the six-foot-three attacker. “He is our Erling Haaland. He can handle it all. He’s large, so he’s good in the air, but he’s also incredibly fast for his size, especially over long distances.”

13. Brendan Aaronson (Leeds United)
Aaronson, who left the club on a relegation release clause last summer to join Union Berlin on a season-long loan, is not a new addition, but he seems like one and shares several similarities with last year’s group. That appeared to be the end of his Leeds career, but the 23-year-old attacking midfielder from the United States will be part of the team for the club’s promotion bid this season.
