According to a club insider, the Tottenham player was offered a new deal before to his release

Tottenham Hotspur recently released eight players from their senior and junior sides, as their contracts expired.

Charlie Sayers, Billy Heaps, Kieran Morgan, and Han Willhoft-King are among the promising young talents.

According to club insider and lawyer John Wenham, Spurs have offered Han Willhoft-King a new contract.

However, the defensive midfielder declined the deal and parted ways with the club.

Wenham disclosed that the Lilywhites wanted to keep Willhoft-King, but the player felt his best possibilities were elsewhere.

The 18-year-old played regularly in the U18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup, appearing in 16 games across all competitions and scored twice.

Willhoft-King has been with Spurs since the age of six, rising through the youth divisions and was named the greatest player in his age group by The Guardian in September 2022.

In an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham revealed that the club had offered Willhoft-King a new deal, which he rejected down.

Wenham backed the player’s decision, claiming it was the best option for his professional development.

He speculated that with teammates Tyrese Hall and George Abbott signing long-term contracts, Willhoft-King may have thought his possibilities to advance at Spurs were restricted.

Wenham commended the young midfielder’s courage in pursuing faster growth elsewhere and wished him success in his future ambitions.

He said:

Willhoft-King was given a new contract but turned it down.

“It is definitely the right decision for him. Tyrese Hall and George Abbott have both signed long-term contracts, and he likely believed that the same path was not available to him.

“He’s going to try his luck elsewhere, and best of luck to him.

“This is a daring decision; he turned down a contract in order to achieve faster progress elsewhere. I wish him the best of luck on that.”

This choice is an important step in Willhoft-King‘s career as he seeks fresh opportunities to grow and improve as a player.
