According to journalist Beren Cross, Tottenham Hotspur will have a difficult time acquiring Archie Gray this summer, with a big fan backlash expected at Leeds if the right-back is sold.

Tottenham is keeping an eye on Archie Gray.

It has been widely reported that Spurs are seeking for a right-back to replace Emerson Royal, who is due to depart the club this summer, with Gray being mentioned as a potential candidate.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold Last week, noted that the Leeds academy graduate is regarded as a natural match for Ange Postecoglou‘s inverted full-back position.

However, he was one of many reporters who suggested that the teenager is not eager to leave Elland Road this summer and is willing to play another year of regular games in the Championship before making a huge move.

The Athletic even claimed a few days ago that Gray had been on Tottenham‘s radar for a long time, with the North London club reportedly considering a move for the kid before signing his first professional contract in March of last year.

However, Cross has since stated that, despite Leeds’ financial difficulties, Gray is not a player they would want to sell this summer because the right-back’s worth will only rise over the next 12 months.

Leeds are unlikely to sell Archie Gray this summer.
When asked about b’s interest of the teenager, the writer told Football.London: “Archie Gray is one of the other kids that emerged from last season with a strong profile. The 18-year-old was named the Championship Young Player of the Season. You can see the trend.

“The distinction with Gray is his age and significance to the fan base. His name is well-known in Leeds circles, as he is Frank’s grandson and Eddie’s great-nephew, and he bleeds white as an academy product.

“While supporters understand that money must be raised this summer, they would prefer to sell every player in the squad before parting with Gray.

“While [Crysencio] Summerville’s aspirations and trajectory are recognised, there is hope that Grey, at the age of 18, can continue to develop with his boyhood club before leaving.

“There is no doubt that Gray has the potential to be a generational England talent. Gareth Southgate has already begun to discuss him following one full season of professional football.

“Any money paid for him this summer might potentially be doubled in two years if Leeds can simply hang on. Marathe and the board are well aware that selling Gray this summer will result in a massive outcry.

It appears that Tottenham will need to make a massive offer of approximately £40 million to £50 million to persuade Leeds to let Gray go.

Even if the Lilywhites are confident in the 18-year-old’s abilities, it is a high price to pay for a backup right-back with no top-tier experience.
