Emerson Royal, a Tottenham Hotspur defender, is still negotiating a transfer to AC Milan.
Interviewed on Andre Hernan’s YouTube channel, Emerson said that Spurs and Milan are in talks over his move to Serie A.
He also expressed his respect for the seven-time European winners, stating that their involvement made him’very happy.’
“I know Milan is in contact with Tottenham; they inquired about me,” Emerson stated, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.
“For me, it’s quite fulfilling because so many Brazilian players have played for Milan. Let us wait and see what occurs.
“AC Milan’s jersey is extremely valuable and heavy. Knowing that groups like this are following me makes me very happy.”
Emerson, who left Barcelona for Barcelonain 2021, lost his place in the starting lineup last season as Pedro Porro established himself as a regular starter.
After making 20 Premier League starts in 2022/22, his first-team opportunities were cut in half this season, prompting him to reassess his options amid Milan’s interest in bringing him to Italy.
Tottenham paid a whopping £25.8 million to buy the Brazilian right-back three years ago.
However, they cannot hope to repay their investment, especially because the Italians are looking for a discount now that they have the player’s assent.
Milan would want to pay £15 million for Emerson, but Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada are looking at other options.
Aston Villa‘s Matty Cash is another option. However, while Paulo Fonseca‘s team sees him as a better match, the Poland international’s £35 million price tag is prohibitive for last season’s Serie A runners-up.
It enhances the likelihood of Emerson‘s transfer, which might speed up Tottenham’s chase of Fiorentina teenager Michael Kayode.
Kayode has surfaced as a target for Spurs, with Ange Postecouglou expected to replace the dissatisfied Brazilian if he leaves.
