Tottenham has reduced the number of strikers on its list to replace Harry Kane by two

Tottenham Hotspur are apparently considering Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez and Toney as potential alternatives for Harry Kane.

Spurs lost their all-time leading goalscorer last summer when Kane decided to join German heavyweights Bayern Munich. Tottenham are yet to identify a successor for England’s captain, despite the fact that he left the North London club about a year ago. Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou used Richarlison and Son Heung-min as his primary striker options last season, with the duo netting 11 and 17 Premier League goals, respectively.

While those are good stats, Postecoglou will be looking for a new number nine ahead of his second season as Tottenham’s head coach. After finishing the 2023–24 season as the Eredivisie’s top scorer with 23 goals in 30 league games, Gimenez is drawing a lot of attention. The 23-year-old joined Ajax from Cruz Azul in January 2022 and has scored 49 goals in 86 competitive games overall.

With just four goals in 30 appearances for Mexico, Gimenez has struggled to translate his success at home to the international level.
Gimenez’s lacklustre Copa America campaign notwithstanding, Toney has received praise for his role in helping England compete at Euro 2024.

The Brentford player assisted on the winning goal against Slovenia in the quarter-finals before scoring one of five penalties in the shootout victory against Switzerland in the semi-final on Saturday.

In contrast to Gimenez, Toney had a rough 2023-24 season, missing the first half owing to a betting ban before scoring four goals in 17 league games. Toney, on the other hand, has performed admirably for the Bees, scoring 72 goals in 141 outings across all competitions.
