Speaking on the latest episode of  Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now runs a football consultancy that advises elite clubs, believes Nuno Espirito Santo’s side lacked cover for some of their first-team players last season.

After taking over for Steve Cooper as manager of Forest in December, the Portuguese manager led the team to safety.

Although they ended one place above the relegation zone, the club received a four-point punishment after being accused with expenditure violations. Forest have been busy in the transfer market, having already signed five players this summer, including Elliot Anderson, Nikola Milenkovic, Marko Stamenic, Carlos Miguel, and Eric da Silva Moreira.

Nottingham Forest must bring in cover for their first-team talents.

However, Wyness has stated that Nuno would continue to strive to add more balance to his team in order to avoid being overly reliant on his key players next season.

He said on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast: “I believe they are still lacking in defensive cover. I believe it will happen and anticipate that it will occur.”

“Last season revealed that they haven’t got the cover.”Nuno, I believe, will attempt to create some balance behind the key players and a squad-based situation. That’s what they need to be consistent with because everyone gets injured, and they need that consistency to climb the league table.”

In other news, Nottingham Forest are interested in signing an Arsenal player.
