Neil Harris confesses that Nottingham Forest outperformed his Millwall team during a pre-season friendly.

‘We are Millwall, Super Millwall, nobody likes us, we don’t care,’ shouted the Millwall fans, but replace super with nasty and it accurately describes their style of play against Nottingham Forest.

Last night, the Reds taught Millwall a lesson in passing the game as the Lions tried everything they could to send Forest packing.
Fortunately, Forest won 2-1, but the opposition’s antics have left the Reds with a nervous wait to find out the extent of Elliot Anderson’s injuries.

Typically, Neil Harris, a former Forest player and current Millwall manager, saw nothing wrong with his players’ approach and even commended the Reds.

Neil Harris thought Forest performed better than Millwall.

At this point in the preseason campaign, things appear to be looking a lot better for the Forest.

The Reds struggled in pre-season games leading up to last season, with Steve Cooper making some absolutely strange team decisions. This year, however, seems different, and there were signs of Forest being more in control of the ball last night, despite the fact that they were only playing against Championship competition.

Harris felt his team struggled against Forest and stated that his approach to the game was rigorous in terms of physical player.

He told the Southwark News: “Forest and Nuno knew what to expect from my Millwall players, and they came prepared for combat. They selected a really powerful team – no disrespect to the rest of the group – with physical presence and size. They made things difficult for us. Forest played quite well for 45 minutes (despite the heat). When I watched them play against Sunderland, they didn’t manage it as well.”

Forest must pick their opponents carefully for next season’s preseason.

Whoever opted to play a friendly against not only Millwall, but also a Lions side led by Harris, ought to have their head examined.

His approach has also been vigorous, and while he has had a successful management career, he prefers physically fit teams.
Millwall were awarded four yellow cards last night, which is unusual for a friendly.

Despite Anderson’s injury, Forest emerged uninjured, and the team can now celebrate another preseason triumph.
