Report: A new Leeds and West Ham target has a £3.5m release clause that the club is desperate to eliminate.

According to TMW, Joel Pohjanpalo has a £3.5m release clause in his Venezia contract, after it was revealed this week that Leeds United and West Ham are two of four English clubs interested in signing him.

Pohjanpalo, 28, has had a bit of a journeyman career in Europe, having played for nine different clubs in four nations. Finland, Germany, Turkey, and now Italy are all on the list. He scored 19 goals in 38 games for Venezia last season.

The 63-time Finland international, however, was unable to assist Venezia achieve promotion to Serie A, with the club placing ninth in the second division. After only a year with Venezia, he will be looking for a team in English football.

West Ham are poised to start on pole position. The Hammers want him, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, especially after cashing in on Gianluca Scamacca, who has joined Atalanta. According to the report, Leeds, Blackburn, and Norwich are all interested.

TMW’s fresh revelation gives Leeds, West Ham and other interested clubs hope, stating he has a £3.5 million departure option in his contract. It also says that Venezia is attempting to get rid of it by providing the Fin a new contract.

Bargain. It’s a no-brainer. Pohjanpalo is a Premier League striker, as seen by his 19 goals for Venezia previous season. A versatile player who can play as a 10, as well as out wide. Hardworking as well.
A player in his prime, with extensive experience – not just in multiple leagues, allowing him to adapt, but also in international competition. Along with Glen Kamara, he is a regular. He has a lot of personality and enjoys a good beer.

Some may have noticed him drinking a beer on the bench after being replaced last season. He celebrated his two assists against SPAL in February with a pint before full-time. So, for £3.5 million, Leeds must relocate.
