Oliver Skipp’s move to Leicester City is officially completed.

Goodbye, my dear prince. Oliver Skipp, a center midfielder who graduated from the Spurs academy, has been finalized for sale by Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City.

David Ornstein of The Athletic claims that the cost was £20 million with a further £5 million in performance-based add-ons, for a possible total of £25 million.

“I can’t really add anything that Matty didn’t previously mention when the initial rumors of Spurs and Leicester’s deal surfaced. We all wanted Skippy to become the next Harry Kane, a homegrown player with club experience who could compete in the Champions League and become a one-club man like Ledley King. I believe this was the dream for all of us. Although the premise of the fairy tale is charming, there’s a reason why fairy tales are kept in the fiction section.”

“The reality is, as good a man as Skipp is (and I quite like him) he just was not at the level Ange Postecoglou needed for his squad. Football is a harsh business, and it means that a young man Jose Mourinho named “a future Tottenham club captain” will now join, and presumably pair with, another former Spurs homegrown midfielder in Harry Winks at Leicester. And I’m really interested to see how THAT turns out, oh boy!”

After Harry Kane’s summer transfer to Bayern, Skipp is now one of the most valued Spurs academy graduates in club history, having sold for over £20 million. Among the top Spurs players to come out of the academy in the history of the Premier League is this one. Oliver Skipp is therefore a remarkable product of Tottenham’s youth, even if he was eventually dropped from the main squad.

Whatever happens to Oliver Skipp, Tottenham will still need to make some difficult decisions on the composition of their Europa League team. I can extend my sincere gratitude to Oliver for his many, many years of devotion to the club in the interim. My friend, you deserve it.

I’m hoping his new contract has a relegation break clause now.
