After Brendan Rodgers forked out the big bucks to lure the Bundesliga team Augsburg to the Scottish champions, Arne Engels had an eventful weekend. His first experience of Scottish football came when the Hoops defeated Philippe Clement’s team 3-0 in their first encounter, throwing him right into the action and giving him a bench berth.

When the game ended, a packed crowd of Celtic supporters celebrated at Glasgow’s east end as the players did a lap of honor and goals from Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Callum McGregor sealed a comfortable victory. Engels had a day full of firsts as he got into the swing of things when Celtic TV showed him dancing with Alistair Johnston while they enjoyed the cheers of the crowd and the energy of the occasion.

The 20-year-old was the focus of attention as he entered the frame, and all he could say was “AMAZING.” The midfielder’s debut was unforgettable, as Luke McCowan was also thrown into the derby action towards the end. Auston Trusty and Alex Valle, two more new Bhoys, were included in the matchday roster but did not see action.

“We’ve seen that mentality to defend, and if the team does break through then you’ve got Kasper who’s a world-class goalkeeper to make the save,” said Rodgers in a post-game statement.

“It was fantastic to score the goals and create the opportunity. However, the defensive aspect of the game is still crucial. The guys have demonstrated incredible attention and work ethic since the first day of preseason.”

“I thought we were really strong moving forward today, and we had some excellent chances to strengthen our case even further. But I’m so happy to have reached this point. We can now reflect, start over, and return fired up for the upcoming matchup with Hearts.”
