Ange Postecoglou shares his honest thoughts on Man United’s red card for Bruno Fernandes.

After Manchester United’s loss, Bruno Fernandes argued that the challenge was “never a red,” stating that it was a foul but not a punishment. However, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou praised his team for applying “pressure” on the Red Devils and declined to address the controversy.

BRUNO FERNADES

The dismissal of Bruno Fernandes by Tottenham, according to manager Ange Postecoglou, was “a consequence” of the way his team performed during their convincing 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday night.

At Old Trafford, Spurs turned on the flair as Brennan Johnson put them ahead in three minutes, and Bruno Fernandes, the captain of United, was sent out for a high boot on James Maddison. After the interval, Dejan Kulusevski poked home the second goal for the London team, and Dominic Solanke added a third. After the game, Fernandes argued that it was “never a red,” arguing that it was a foul rather than a dismissal. However, Postecoglou declined to address the question of whether it was a fair dismissal, preferring to concentrate on how it happened after Spurs placed United under “enormous” pressure.

“I think it was a consequence of how we were going in the game,” he stated. Simply applying a great deal of pressure to them.

We were keeping them inside their half of the opportunities we were creating. It was a really good performance overall.”

Despite acknowledging that his team may have scored a few more goals, the Australian coach commended his players for their fast start and for keeping the game under control once United was reduced to ten men.

“I thought it was an outstanding performance,” he stated. “Had a wonderful start to the game, scored a great goal, and should have

had two or three more to be ahead. They receive a red card, and we have excellent game management. Simply amazing work by the boys.

After the game, Fernandes insisted to the reporters that it wasn’t a red, saying,

“I agree that it is a foul but it is never a [sending off].” The official attempted to explain to me that he observed a distinct

touch with the studs. No. It was my ankle; I didn’t even touch him with the studs on my foot. It is definitely a foul.”

The outcome puts a great deal of pressure on United manager Erik ten Hag after United suffered back-to-back 3-0 home losses; the team had previously lost to Liverpool by the same score in this Premier League match.

Nevertheless, Ten Hag remained adamant in his press conference following the game, stating that the club’s owners, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, remain committed to him and have chosen to remain with the Dutchman this summer.
