Clement needs private discussions with Sterling after Rangers star’s ill-thought comments

Rangers manager Philippe Clement must have severe conversations with Dujon Sterling after his ill-advised social media post left him open to UEFA penalty.

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett has warned that the 25-year-old’s statements could result in a three-match punishment.

The right-back objected to the referee’s decision to award the French squad a penalty in the sixth minute after reviewing three separate incidences on the VAR monitor.

The former Chelsea player wrote on social media platform X following the 4-1 Europa League victory over Nice: “Good European performance from the boys, great atmosphere from fans, btw [by the way], anyone know why the ref was desperate to give them a pen.”
Social media controversy reveals the immaturity of Rangers star
Sterling’s social media statements demonstrate immaturity, and he should be aware that the competition’s regulating body can sanction such behavior.

Given the potential consequences, questioning match officials in public is not a wise decision.

If UEFA decides to punish him, he may miss the rest of the Gers’ league stage matches against Tottenham, Manchester United, and Union Saint-Gilloise.

The 25-year-old was awarded a start over veteran James Tavernier and was expected to start again against St. Johnstone this weekend in the Scottish Premiership. (1 December) after recording an assist last night.

However, his juvenile post-match actions will make Clement reconsider giving him a starting spot on Sunday.

He must now hope that his actions have no repercussions, but Clement should still speak with the player nonetheless.
