Robby McCrorie makes a sincere Rangers admission before his emotional return to Ibrox with Killie

The goalkeeper is ready to face his former club and is seeking to make it three Old Firm clean sheets in a row, following home wins for Gers in 2021 and 2023

Robby McCrorie has two clean sheets for Rangers in Old Firm victories at Ibrox.

And, as he prepares to make his emotional comeback as Kilmarnock‘s number one tonight, he insists he is a lot better keeper than he was in those wins over Celtic. The Scotland team member returns to the club where he spent ten years as Killie face the Light Blues. Derek McInnes’ side are looking to complete a famous double after McCrorie kept another clean sheet in a 1-0 win against Philippe Clement’s men at Rugby Park in October.

McCrorie left Rangers in the summer, and there was always the sense that he never got his chance to shine, having made only five league appearances during his time at Ibrox. Remarkably, two of those came in Old Firm games in 2021 and 2023, with the Gers winning both at home without surrendering a goal.

The 26-year-old maintains he has no regrets about moving to Ayrshire. He said: “It was an easy decision to make, and I don’t mean that disrespectfully, but it was one I had been desiring for a long time.

“I am grateful that the manager and many others at the club worked hard to make it happen, and I am now enjoying it with a run of games. My favorite moments at Rangers were playing in Old Firm games. I was prepared for them to be honest.

“From the outside, it appeared that I was being thrown in, although I was current on my loans. I try to workout properly every day, so I was completely prepared.

“There’s no other game that compares to the Old Firm derby, and we got good results and clean sheets.” I don’t think you could ask for anything better! I know I did everything I could have done. I do not have any regrets. Everything else was out of my control.

“I definitely feel like I’m a better keeper now, and I believe I can improve. I simply want to keep developing. I’d practice all weekend until the game, and even when the Rangers won, I didn’t feel the same way. I wasn’t involved on the pitch and I wanted to be involved and have a say in games.

“This is why I am here in Kilmarnock. I’m really enjoying being here. There are many excellent individuals here, and everyone works hard to give their best for the club, which is something I appreciate. I am also that kind of person.

“I haven’t given much thought to returning to Ibrox because of the number of games we’ve played there. I’m not sure what it will be like.

He added: “The essential thing is that I’m going there as a Kilmarnock player, and I want to earn a good result for the club. I’m looking forward to it. It’s one of the largest and best venues in the game, and I need to embrace it.

“But I’m going back there for football, which is essential to us. There are a lot of games coming up with no breaks, so we need to get points and gain momentum.
