Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers discusses his thoughts on Rangers’ meeting with Tottenham

Rangers, led by Philippe Clement, will undoubtedly be the underdogs in Sunday’s Scottish League Cup final against Premiership giants Celtic.

However, with Rangers playing their greatest football of 2024/25, the odds of a victory this weekend are much fewer than they would have been, say, a few weeks ago when the blue side of Glasgow messed up at Aberdeen.

Rangers won four consecutive games, scoring 14 goals, before Tottenham Hotspur arrived at Ibrox for Thursday’s Europa League ‘Battle of Britain’.

While Dejan Kulusevski’s equaliser ended Rangers’ winning streak, they outplayed Ange Postecoglou’s squad for long periods of time. Hamza Igamane continued his impressive form with another goal, while Nico Raskin and Ridvan Yilmaz won Philippe Clement’s respect for their relentless performances.

Rodgers tuned in to see Sunday’s opponents in action.

And he understands that Clement’s players, especially with confidence high, will be far more formidable opponents than they were in September, when Daizen Maeda powered Celtic to a 3-0 victory.

Brendan Rodgers impressed after watching Rangers vs. Tottenham.
“A Celtic [versus] Rangers final is a great occasion,” Rodgers tells media at his pre-match press conference. “And it’s in Hampden, which is fantastic. However, our perspective is that the next game is the one in which we want to perform well and win.

“I guess I saw the game last night, and I felt they played really well. I felt it was a great game to see.

“Rangers will want to bring the level that they been at over these last three, four games.”
