David Ornstein provides an update on Postecoglou’s Tottenham future

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been under increasing pressure following a run of dismal form in which the north Londoners have failed to win their previous five games in all competitions. However, David Ornstein has been quick to state that the manager is “squarely supported” by the club’s hierarchy.

Postecoglou was appointed in July 2023 and has since led the club’s rebuilding efforts, but with the team currently placed 12th in the table, fans have questioned the Greek-Australian custodian’s position. Much of the criticism came following Spurs’ dramatic 4-3 loss to Chelsea, in which they gave up a two-goal lead, but a draw against Rangers in their midweek Europa League match only added to the external pressure. Following this outcome, former Tottenham player Jamie O’Hara has stated that he has “had enough” of Postecoglou.

Ornstein: ‘Pressure is External’ on Postecoglou

Spurs are currently fully supporting the long-term initiative.

Speaking with NBC Sports, Ornstein detailed what he had learned about the inner situation at Tottenham, including the rising doubt about Postecoglou‘s future. He said:

“The pressure is external. The Tottenham Hotspur hierarchy fully supports Ange Postecoglou. Every conversation I’ve had thus far indicates that he is fully backed, and they are not considering replacing Ange Postecoglou. Some portions of the fans and the general public may not appreciate hearing that, but it is the reality as it stands.”

“Things can change rapidly. What happens if Tottenham loses at Southampton? We may be having a different conversation, but they have not reached that point in their thinking yet.

“They do have finances, and they are in a good situation. They could enter the market in January or in the summer. But I believe their focus will be on returning their players from injury and utilizing the resources at their disposal.”

Indeed, injuries have hampered the team’s progress, with a number of crucial first-team players, including Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, and Richarlison, unavailable for selection as a result.

With the team increasingly stretched across multiple tournaments, Spurs’ top brass may be tempted to invest in new recruits ahead of the January transfer window, both to strengthen in crucial areas and to demonstrate their faith in Postecoglou’s plans. With that in mind, Pascal Struijk and Quinten Timber have been linked with a move to North London in 2025.
