Real Madrid face unexpected opposition from AC Milan in race for former academy defender

Mario Gila, who used to play for Real Madrid’s youth team, joined Lazio in 2022 for €6 million and hasn’t looked back since. The Spaniard has become a vital member of Lazio, drawing interest from clubs all over Europe.

Real Madrid was even linked to a move for Gila because they are in dire need of defensive reinforcements. Gila is currently one of the most exciting defensive prospects in Serie A.

Milan enters the race to acquire Gila.
However, Inter Milan is also interested in Gila’s services, so Real Madrid is not the only team following his development.

According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, AC Milan has also recently entered the race to sign Gila, citing concerns about the futures of two defenders who are being considered by Premier League teams: Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw. Milan views Gila as a perfect replacement for Tomori or Thiaw, and as a result, they are considering a move for the Spaniard. Real Madrid hasn’t given up on Gila either, but their move may be contingent on a number of factors.

Notably, Real Madrid is keeping an eye on other defenders in addition to Gila as they seek to bolster their defense next season.

RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba is regarded as Los Blancos’ top scout Juni Calafat’s preferred choice.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alphonso Davies are among the other players the club has their sights set on in the transfer market.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether or not Gila remains a key target for Los Blancos next summer.
