Harry Kane has recently left the North London club…
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to recruit KAA Gent forward Gift Orban after losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, according to a new report.
Ange Postecoglou has received six reinforcements so far this summer, and now faces the burden of replacing Tottenham‘s talisman as the Premier League season begins.
What is the latest news about Gift Orban joining Tottenham Hotspur?
Spurs have plenty of cash after selling Kane to Bayern Munich for an estimated £95 million. Finding goals without their key man could prove difficult for Spurs this season, potentially making Orban‘s presence essential in the coming weeks.
Postecoglou will be desperate to find a replacement as soon as possible, as the last thing the new manager wants is to go into his first season at Spurs without a goal scorer.
Spurs and Gent are in continuous talks to replace Kane, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who said that the North London club has verbally offered roughly €27 million, with the Belgian club holding out for €30 million this summer.
According to Tavolieri, the Spurs will make a written offer to the forward next week in an attempt to reach an agreement for his signature.
Should Gift Orban join Tottenham Hotspur?
Spurs may have made a wise decision by bringing in Orban. The forward is a present and future option who will only improve with a move to a Premier League club.
The Nigerian scored 20 goals in 22 appearances for Gent last season. Meanwhile, he has already reached the back of the goal five times in three games this season. According to the statistics, Spurs would be signing a man in form who will only grow better with time.
Without Orban, the North London club may be forced to rely on Richarlison to lead the line throughout the season, despite the fact that he struggled to find the back of the net in his debut season, scoring only three times in 35 appearances.
Gent‘s forward has also received high acclaim for his efforts, with Ben Jacobs telling TeamTalk:
“Of course, he only joined Gent in January, making a summer move unlikely, but because Gent plays in Belgium, there’s a realistic chance that a top European club could make an offer that’s too good to turn down.”
“However, we must keep in mind that Gift Orban is only 20 years old, is still developing, and is very happy at Gent.” So he’s not keen to get out come summer, and thus that type of transfer, barring a very good offer and possibly even a Premier League club taking a risk because he’s so young, might be one to monitor in 2024.
“However, Orban is placing himself in the shop window. He’s already scored seven goals this week, including a four-minute hat-trick in the Europa Conference League. On top of that, he scored four goals in the Belgian Pro League. So the young Nigerian scored seven goals between Sunday and Wednesday, which is just extraordinary. And with that kind of scoring form, you’re certain to spark the eye of potential suitors.”
