Graham Smyth discusses his knowledge of Illan Meslier’s departure from Leeds United.

Graham Smyth claims that Leeds United has no intentions to replace Illan Meslier as goalkeeper or sell him this month.

In an article published in the Yorkshire Evening Post on January 8, Smyth acknowledged that, even if the Whites lost against Hull City due to some obvious mistakes, he would be “stunned” if Meslier was sold by the team before February 3.
Despite calls for Meslier to be fired and the Whites being linked to other top-tier goalkeepers, Daniel Farke has stood by Meslier after past missteps and is probably going to do so again.

“I don’t think Leeds has any plans to sell Meslier this month, and I would be shocked if he moved on in January,” Smyth stated.

“There aren’t any plans to go and get a goalkeeper right now either; I’m pretty sure Farke will say that to us when we meet with him on Thursday as well.”
Leeds United will pay more than January for Illan Meslier‘s transfer plan.
Standing stationary at the top level of English football means regressing, as the Peacocks discovered the hard way. This season, they run the risk of experiencing the same thing as they did in their pursuit of the Premier League.
If United were several points ahead at the top of the Championship, 49ers Enterprises’ plan for a quiet January window would be a perfectly acceptable attitude; yet, as it is, their gap is only one point.

Given some of his high-profile errors this season, like practically putting two points (via the ball) into his own net at Sunderland in October before Saturday’s outbursts at Hull, it may be argued that Meslier is to blame.

After placing ninth in the top flight in 2021, United’s management failed to fix the roof while the sun was shining, which paved the way for Marcelo Bielsa’s departure and their relegation two years later.

The success of this season may depend on who plays in goal, and Leeds should probably be well clear of a promotion race already. Avoiding the mistakes of the past could prove essential.

The Whites are searching for a Championship goal machine who may be the difference-maker for promotion, according to other Leeds news.
