Leeds United wants to solidify their place in the promotion fight after having a strong start to the 2024–25 Championship season.
With three points on Tuesday, Daniel Farke‘s team was able to exert pressure on league leader Sunderland.Leeds tied the Black Cats on points after their victory over Watford, but they are still in second place with Sunderland playing on Wednesday.
But the Whites have already had to cope with a number of serious injuries, so it hasn’t been an easy start to the season.
Farke is currently looking for midfield reinforcement after losing Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu to long-term injuries.
TBR Football has been informed by Leeds sources that Joshua Guilavogui‘s signing is finalized.
Why Joshua Guilavogui hasn’t been announced by Leeds
Leeds has been searching the globe for a midfield player, but they have ultimately decided to sign Guilavogui, a former France international.
Leeds is still awaiting Football League approval, but the 34-year-old has agreed to terms through the end of the season.
Leeds and Cheikhou Kouyate had discussions, but they had to back out due to his medical concerns since they need someone who can be involved right away.
Additionally, the Yorkshire club had discussions with players like Francis Coquelin, who was given a trial offer at Leeds, and Christoph Kramer.
It will take time for Guilavogui to become fit.
Since leaving Bundesliga team Mainz at the beginning of the summer, Guilavogui has been without a club.
Despite having the entire summer to improve his fitness, the 34-year-old hasn’t participated in any competitive football games this season.
Thankfully, Leeds‘ results at Elland Road are still good, so they don’t appear to be in dire need of a player to start right away.
However, given his recent lack of first team activity, Guilavogui‘s eventual arrival to the club may be delayed as it will probably take some time for him to integrate into Farke’s squad.
