Following a six-game suspension for spitting at an opponent, Norwich City forward Borja Sainz will no longer be able to play against Leeds United later this month.
Although Sainz was not disciplined by the match official at the time, the event was registered and was included in the referee’s report on the final whistle. Sainz committed the offense during ‘s recent encounter against Sunderland.
The Spaniard will now miss the Canaries’ matches against Brighton & Hove Albion (FA Cup), Sheffield United, Leeds, Swansea City, Watford, and Derby County after receiving a six-game suspension from the Football Association.
An FA statement stated: “It was alleged that the forward committed the sending off offence of spitting at an opponent, during the 74th minute of the fixture. Borja Sainz admitted the charge and his sanctions were subsequently imposed by an independent Regulatory Commission. Full written reasons for this case will be published in due course.” After a violation of FA Rule E1.1 during their EFL Championship match against Sunderland on Saturday, December 21, 2024, Borja Sainz was suspended for six games and fined £12,000.
Sainz has already scored 15 goals this season, making him the leading scorer in the Championship. Josh Maja, who has twelve, Joel Piroe, Emmanuel Latte Lath, and Josh Windass, who all have ten, are behind him in the Golden Boot competition.
