Report: Tottenham teenager ready for loan move before transfer deadline

With the transfer market shutting in a few days, Tottenham are taking steps to guarantee their young players have the best opportunities for development.

Will Lankshear has been a member of Ange Postecoglou‘s senior team this season, making several appearances but fighting for regular playing time.

While Tottenham have big hopes for Lankshear, the club believes that a temporary move may be the best option for his development.

Several clubs are interested in getting his services for the remainder of the season, and Tottenham have a strong preference for where he should go.

However, with other young forwards competing for a spot in the squad, Tottenham’s assault is undergoing some reshuffling.

Will Lankshear draw championship interest?

According to Football London, Will Lankshear is expected to go on loan before Monday’s deadline.

Lankshear is anticipated to join a Championship team on loan, with Burnley, Middlesbrough, West Brom, Cardiff, and Luton keen in signing him.

While clubs from other countries have expressed interest, Tottenham prefers that the forward stay in England and acquire experience in English football’s second division.

Despite playing for the first team this season, Lankshear was an unused replacement in Tottenham’s recent 3-0 Europa League victory over Elfsborg.

Instead, Dane Scarlett was given a chance from the bench and scored his first senior goal for the club with a header off a Dejan Kulusevski pass.

Scarlett will now stay with Tottenham for the remainder of the season, as Lankshear is expected to leave.

Scarlett was initially recalled from his loan at Oxford United, with the anticipation of being loaned out again.

However, after assessing his circumstances, Postecoglou chose to keep him in the team as backup in attack.

Tottenham’s strategy for their young strikers

Speaking about Scarlett’s predicament, Postecoglou revealed why he decided to keep him at the club: “We looked into his situation. He’s had a couple of unsuccessful loans.

“I think sending him out again without any sort of real prospect of him developing, we just felt let’s keep him training with us and give him an opportunity to train with us and play with us and see how it goes.”

While Scarlett has the opportunity to impress at Tottenham, Lankshear will seek to make the most of his projected loan move.

With Championship football providing a competitive atmosphere, this might be an important step in his development before returning to Tottenham in the summer.
