Keith Downie claims that Leeds United will not pursue Matt Targett until they have a better idea of Junior Firpo’s future.
The Whites have started negotiations with the Newcastle United defender, but nothing has progressed because of their own left-back, the Sky Sports journalist stated on his YouTube channel [31 January].
The Dominican Republic international, who is nearing the end of his Elland Road contract, is reportedly attracting interest from Real Sociedad; nevertheless, Firpo is currently still a Leeds player. Targett is also being watched by Southampton and Watford; Leicester City had earlier entered the contest to recruit the 29-year-old. “I expect Matt Targett to go. I haven’t announced anything yet, but I was informed yesterday that Leeds had held some discussions, but Leeds is awaiting word on the status of its left-back, Junior Firpo,” Downie stated.
“Real Sociedad is showing some interest there, so if Firpo were to leave, Targett might be a possibility, but as of right now, Firpo is still a Leeds player.
I was informed a few weeks ago that Leicester was also interested in Targett, but I’ve also been informed that Southampton and Watford are also interested.”
