Rangers news roundup: John Souttar’s injury issue, Steven Gerrard return

Rangers have had a busy 24 hours since Barry Ferguson took charge of his first game as interim manager against Kilmarnock.

On Wednesday (27 February), the Light Blues defeated Derek McInnes’ squad 4-2 at Rugby Park, allowing them to reclaim their Scottish Premiership spot.

John Souttar did not play against the Saints since he has been out for some time.

Ferguson has temporarily replaced Philippe Clement after an unsuccessful season, leaving the door open for a new manager to take over next summer.

Souttar may need surgery at Rangers after injury.

According to Dr. Rajpal Brar, if Souttar suffers from a recurring injury, surgery may be required.

Dermot Gallagher reacts to Rangers dispute vs Kilmarnock.

Dermot Gallagher believes the referee made the correct decision in awarding the Light Blues a corner before they scored their second goal against Kilmarnock.

McInnes’ squad held a two-goal lead when Vaclav Cerny scored in the first half, and Dessers equalised shortly after.

Before the Nigerian striker scored, Ianish Hagi claimed his shot had hit a Kilmarnock player, and while the referee first awarded a goal kick, he changed his mind and awarded a corner.

Gallagher stated on Sky Sports News (27 February): “This is one of two in Scotland last night that became a consequence rather than a choice made.

“I believe we’ve turned a corner. It strikes the defender. The referee awards a goal kick, but he undoubtedly had some influence, and he calls a corner. It became a discussion subject because they benefited from it.”

Steven Gerrard’s hiring to be welcomed at Ibrox.
Derek Ferguson would welcome Steven Gerrard’s arrival at Ibrox in the coming months.

The ex-Gers midfielder feels fans would like to see the former Al-Ettifaq manager return to the Glasgow club.

Derek, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News prior to his brother Barry taking over on an interim basis, stated: “It’s surprising Steven left his position in Saudi. It’s something Rangers fans will probably like.

“He led the club to 55 trophies, though others believe it took him three years to get there. He eventually made it, and he is well regarded; most admirers adore him.

“To be honest, I would embrace such appointment. I would not be opposed to Steven Gerrard coming in.
