Leeds United are interested in signing Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill: an exit is ‘Increasingly Likely’.

According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United are interested in signing Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill after he failed to agree on a new contract.

The Whites are among numerous clubs interested in signing the 27-year-old, according to their official website (17 August), with his exit now appearing “increasingly likely” at Turf Moor.

Brownhill was left out of the team’s opening-day defeat to Manchester City, and Leeds might make a move to improve Daniel Farke‘s squad, although they will face competition from Wolves, Everton, Crystal Palace, Leicester, and Middlesbrough.

“Wolves are ready to test Burnley’s resolve to keep midfield star Josh Brownhill, TEAMtalk understands,” they said.

“With only a year left on his current contract, a number of clubs are keeping an eye on Brownhill, with the Clarets keen to avoid losing him as a free agent next summer.”

“However, they are not Brownhill’s sole fans. Crystal Palace, Everton, Leeds, Leicester, and Middlesbrough are also interested.

“However, with the player no closer to reaching an agreement on an extension, a split appears increasingly likely before the summer window closes on Friday, September 1.

Central midfield is without a doubt the area of the team where Leeds are most vulnerable right now, and that includes if Tyler Adams stays through the deadline.

Ethan Ampadu and Archie Grey have began the season as the first-choice duo, with Jamie Shackleton and Sam Greenwood also available, but Farke has stated that he wants to add players before the transfer window ends.

Brownhill was a key player of Burnley‘s promotion-winning side last season, and his experience would be useful at Elland Road, while any transfer cost would likely be low due to his contract position.

With several Premier League clubs allegedly keen, convincing him to turn down another season in the Championship may be difficult, but with a regular starting berth significantly more realistic, it may be done for the player once regarded as “fabulous.”

It’s one to keep an eye on, for sure, but it’s far from finished.
