After six years with Liverpool, Sadio Mane left the team in the summer
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has responded to claims that Sadio Mane’s departure is to blame for his team’s erratic start to the year.
After six years with the team, the 30-year-old left Anfield in the summer to join Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich. Liverpool has had trouble stringing wins together so far this season and opened their Champions League run last week with a 4-1 loss at Napoli on the road.
With nine points out of a possible 18 thus far, they are now sitting in seventh place on the Premier League rankings. However, Liverpool significantly improved their situation on Tuesday night by defeating Ajax 2-1.
Mane played a significant role for Klopp last season, contributing 23 goals and five assists in all competitions. Any team would feel the Senegalese’s departure, the Liverpool manager conceded, but he argued it wasn’t the cause of their recent success.
Sadio is a professional athlete. We would always miss him, he said to Norwegian television station TV2. However, this is not currently our issue. Sadly, we also misbehaved when playing with Sadio. Awful, but not so bad.
“I particularly understand the desire for discussion, for answers, and for things like that among Liverpool supporters. However, I assure you that we have worked on answers, and now is our chance to demonstrate that we understand it
Mane has made 10 appearances in all competitions since joining Bayern and has scored once so far. After their victory over Barcelona earlier this week, manager Julian Nagelsmann discussed the player’s form and acknowledged the winger will need time to adjust.
The Bayern manager praised how much effort “he put in” for Liverpool. “He is a recent signee. All he has to do is adjust. He made an effort. He will succeed for us, I’m sure of it.”
