Postecoglou suggests it is ‘unlikely’ that he will name a player to his Premier League Tottenham team.

Ange Postecoglou has firmly intimated in his current news conference that Hugo Lloris will not be returning to the club for the upcoming season, despite making little headway in unloading the custodian so far this summer.

Hugo Lloris appears to be on his way out of Tottenham during the current transfer window, after more than a decade at the club and eight years as captain.

When it comes to Spurs‘ dismal performance in the 2022/23 season, the Frenchman was one of the key reasons.

His low point, and maybe the last time we saw him in a Tottenham shirt, was the rout of Newcastle United in April, when he was replaced at half-time.

Lloris was out for the final six games of the season due to injury, and Fraser Forster took his place. Guglielmo Vicario has now arrived at Spurs and taken over as first-choice custodian, while Heung-min Son has been designated the new club captain.

Lloris was widely expected to join Lazio last week, but the deal fell through when the Spurs player decided he did not want to be a backup custodian for the Italian club (L’Equipe).

Lloris has now been linked with a return to Tottenham this season (Fabrice Hawkins).

Postecoglou suggests Lloris will leave Spurs.
Ange Postecoglou, speaking to the press today (via Football.London), was asked about the prospects of the former captain staying, but the Australian seemed to hint that won’t happen.

“You can’t just have any number of players you want,” he said, adding, “and I’d say it’s unlikely we’ll have three goalkeepers on our list.”

While Ange did not specifically state that Hugo Lloris will be moved on, we understand what he is indicating. Guglielmo Vicario is certainly not leaving, and Fraser Forster signed a new contract this summer, so Lloris must leave one way or another.

He still has time to find a club that will make him their number-one stopper, and perhaps everything will work out for him.
