According to reports, Tottenham and Fulham have discussed a cash-plus-player trade involving Eric Dier that would benefit both parties.
Dier, 29, has been left out of Ange Postecoglou‘s initial two matchday selections this season. The formation change from a back five to a back four has resulted in the loss of one centre-back from the starting eleven. Micky van de Ven‘s entrance has complicated Dier‘s situation even further.
So far, the Dutchman has been paired with World Cup winner Cristian Romero. Davinson Sanchez has been named on the bench ahead of Dier, and Ben Davies has also been tested at center-half in pre-season.
Furthermore, with Tottenham still looking for a high-profile signing at center-back, Dier does not appear to have a future in north London.
Tosin Adarabioyo of Fulham is one of those Tottenham has scouted. Sky Sports reports that a cash-plus-player transaction involving Dier and Adarabioyo is being considered.
Fulham have inquired about the deal, which would see Spurs get Adarabioyo as well as a minor fee on top.
One stumbling block derives from Monaco’s considerable interest in Adarabioyo.
Furthermore, according to CBS Sports writer Ben Jacobs, joining Monaco is the centre-back’s favoured conclusion.
However, Monaco have yet to make an acceptable offer, and the possibility of joining Spurs is now being considered.
“With Tosin, my understanding was that he preferred to sign for Monaco,” Jacobs told The Boot Room.
“However, Fulham may have been interested in some sort of deal that involved Eric Dier going the other way.”
“So we’ll just have to wait and see if the player changes his mind.”
Dier has been advised to quit Tottenham for his own good.
The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards stated that Dier “needs to go” due to his lack of a future at Spurs.
“He needs to go,” Edwards stated on the Transfer Gossip Daily podcast. “He should play football.”He’s in the exact same scenario as Harry Maguire. He needs to go play football, and at his age, he doesn’t want to sit around. He was omitted from the first two squads.”
Edwards finished by saying, “I think he needs to go.”
If Dier and Adarabioyo switched places, it would appear to be a win-win situation for everyone.
Tottenham would be getting rid of an unwanted player and replacing him with a younger star who fits Postecoglou’s philosophy better.
Meanwhile, Fulham would sign a proven England international to replace Adarabioyo, who is in the final year of his contract.
