Genk has rejected Leeds United’s initial bid for Joseph Paintsil.
According to HLN Sport, Genk has issued a counter proposal to the Whites and is waiting for a response.
Leeds‘ initial offer is thought to have been in the region of £8.6 million, with roughly £6.8 million guaranteed and the rest in add-ons.
According to the report, Paintsil is interested in relocating to Leeds and has already turned down offers from Saudi Arabia and Southampton.
The next three days are likely to ‘bring clarity’ to the Paintsil situation, and it remains to be seen whether Leeds will return with a new offer that is near to Genk’s criteria.
Leeds sees an opening as Genk rejects Paintsil’s offer.
However, according to Sky Sports this morning, Leeds and Genk are in early talks over a deal for Paintsil, indicating that they are willing to negotiate.
If a deal is reached, the 25-year-old would be a major coup for Leeds, having scored 14 goals and supplied 14 assists in the Belgian league last season.
Daniel Farke would now have a multitude of attacking alternatives at his disposal, especially with the acquisition of Joel Piroe yesterday.
There are now only seven days left in the window for teams to conclude their business, and Leeds are anticipated to be extremely busy.
Hopefully, Leeds and the Belgian club can agree on a deal because he would be a wonderful acquisition.
