According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United are interested in signing Leicester City defender Luke Thomas.
With only a few days left in the transfer window, the Whites are claimed to be looking for a left-back, and Thomas is “one of the names under consideration.”
Leo Hjelde started the season at left-back for Leeds before being replaced by Sam Byram. However, Byram was forced off in the first half of Saturday’s 4-3 win over Ipswich Town with an adductor injury, and it is unknown how long he will be out for, with manager Daniel Farke admitting it is a blow to lose the 29-year-old.
“First and foremost, it feels like we’re in the season where every time you think, ‘Thank God, no sucker punch,’ another one comes along. Sam has been outstanding thus far, but he has been injured. “He was even one of our best performers in the last game,” Farke told LeedsLive.
Farke‘s options at left-back have been further weakened by Byram‘s injury, with Junior Firpo also out injured and not likely to return until mid-September.
According to The Athletic’s Phil Hay, Thomas is one potential possibility at left-back, along with Burnley defender Charlie Taylor, who began his career at Elland Road.

Thomas came up through the Leicester youth system and made his debut in July 2020 against Sheffield United.
He went on to play regularly for Brendan Rodgers, making 24 appearances in all competitions as Leicester City were relegated from the Premier League.
However, he has fallen out of favour since the arrival of Enzo Maresca at the King Power Stadium, and he has yet to make an appearance this season, with Manchester City loanee Callum Doyle preferred at left-back.
Thomas has one year left on his contract and could be permitted to leave before the transfer window closes, with talkSPORT reporting last week that the 22-year-old is “keen to play first-team football and may explore the possibility of heading out on loan.”
Would Leeds United benefit from signing Luke Thomas?
Thomas would be a terrific addition to the Whites‘ roster.
He is a player with enormous potential who has previously demonstrated his skills at Premier League level, thus he would be a more than capable performer in the Championship.
Thomas is unlucky not to get more playing time at Leicester, but with Doyle excelling at left-back and James Justin capable of filling that role, his minutes are likely to be limited at the King Power Stadium.
Leeds will miss Byram, who has been in fantastic form since his return to Elland Road this summer, but Thomas would be a good alternative.
The Whites won a really impressive game against Ipswich over the weekend, and much of the focus in the coming days will be on maintaining hold of players like Wilfried Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra, but Farke will also be looking to reinforce for what appears to be a promotion drive this season.
