Transfer to Man Utd scuppered as Nott’m Forest and a top-tier signing reach an “agreement”.

According to a reliable source, Nottingham Forest and Odysseas Vlachodimos of Benfica have reached an initial agreement for the goalkeeper’s transfer, meaning Manchester United is likely to miss out on him.

Vlachodimos, a shot-stopper who is 29 years old and was born in Germany, plays for Greece on the international stage. He spent time with Stuttgart and Panathinaikos before joining Benfica in July 2018. Since then, Vlachodimos has advanced to become one of Portugal’s best goalkeepers.

Vlachodimos enjoyed a fruitful tenure at Benfica, where he contributed to the club’s two league championships and two Portuguese super cups. But he appears to be in line for a transfer this summer as he has decided it is time to move on to the next phase of his professional life.

On August 21, it became known that Manchester United was looking to replace Dean Henderson, who is about to be revealed as a Crystal Palace player, with Vlachodimos.

The Red Devils soon found out that Vlachodimos was ‘keen’ on a switch to Old Trafford, which would see him compete with Andre Onana for a starting place. But on Monday, Forest moved to ruin that deal.

Steve Cooper’s side thundered in with a €9m (£7.7m) offer for Vlachodimos. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that was lower than Benfica’s asking price, but he added that talks between the two clubs would continue.

Romano has provided a significant update on the situation in a tweet. Before he might move to the City Ground, he claims that Forest and Vlachodimos have “agreed personal terms.”

Benfica and Forest have not reached a deal, but they are still in negotiations for a package that would be more valuable than the club’s initial £7.7 million offer.
