Willy Gnonto is on the verge of leaving Leeds United for Everton in a deadline-day move.

According to Calcio Mercato, Willy Gnonto is on the verge of leaving Leeds United for Everton in a deadline-day trade.

The Italian news site stated on Friday (1 September, 12:16pm CEST) through their live transfer blog that Gnonto, 19, is “very close” to signing for the Toffees ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline in the UK.

Due to a number of failed Everton approaches for the Italy international, Gnonto has previously handed in and withdrawn a transfer request to leave Leeds this summer.

Really?

For the time being, we’ll take this with a grain of salt because this is just one story from Italy.

While Gnonto is Italian and Calcio Mercato may have sources close to the Elland Road striker, there has been no definitive evidence from sources within the UK that this deal will take place.

If Gnonto leaves, it is possible that he will cause problems again.

This summer, Leeds have been unequivocal in their stance on Gnonto: he’s not going anywhere.

A late bid with a lot of money, on the other hand, could have weakened that attitude slightly, whilst a last-ditch effort to leave would not only have burned bridges between Gnonto and the club, but it would have thrown a grenade on the already-fractured connection with the fans.

But for the time being, we’re not making any assumptions.

At 11 p.m. on Friday, we’ll know for certain whether Gnonto is a Leeds player.

We have a sense he will be, which is a good thing since the Italian returned to play with a goal against Ipswich last week.

In any case, who in their right mind would want to join Everton right now?
