Joel Piroe has expressed gratitude to the Leeds United fans for their warm welcome on his home debut.
But he acknowledges that the outcome against Sheffield Wednesday was not what he had expected.
The recent Swansea City acquisition, who might cost Leeds as much as £16 million when add-ons are taken into account, was a major component in the scoreless draw on Saturday [2 September] at Elland Road.
Piroe hopes that things will go differently for his team when they play Millwall on their return to Championship action. Piroe was unable to assist his side in winning.
Late on Saturday [2 September], Piroe wrote on Instagram, “Thanks for the welcome at Elland Road.”
“But let’s agree that we’ll take the three points the next time!”
Ineffective
On August 26, Piroe scored his first goal for his new team in a 4-3 victory over Ipswich Town, but Sheffield Wednesday, the previous worst team, kept him quiet.
In place of the ineffectual Georginio Rutter, Daniel Farke started the Dutchman against Wednesday in an offensive midfield role.
Piroe only had 40 touches of the ball and two shots, neither of which found the goal [WhoScored].
Nine other Leeds players, some of whom did not play the entire game, saw more of the ball than that, putting that statistic into some perspective.
In light of this, it’s possible that Farke will shift Piroe into a more advanced position for the encounter against Millwall in two weeks, most likely at Rutter‘s expense.
Piroe must be utilised to his advantage because he naturally scores goals.
