Hugh Woozencroft expressed his surprise at seeing a rare stalemate on a day normally crammed with drama when Leeds United were held by Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday [2 September].
The 0-0 stalemate between Yorkshire rivals Leeds and Wednesday at Elland Road was chosen as the primary game for Woozencroft‘s English Football League Highlights broadcast on ITV.
Woozencroft later pointed out on Twitter that the local derby was not just the only game in the Championship without a goal, but also in the Premier League, League One, and Scottish Premiership.
“What a crazy football day!” “Almost every result had a subplot or a surprise,” Woozencroft wrote on Saturday [2 September].
“On my way home from the Premier League, Championship, League One, and Scottish Premiership’s only 0-0 draw.” Unbelievable.”

It may have been a dramatic day in England and Scotland, but neither Leeds nor Sheffield Wednesday fans had anything to cheer about at Elland Road.
The game had its moments, with a total of eight shots on goal.
One of them came from Georginio Rutter, who effectively handed the ball to opposing custodian Devis Vasquez after an attempted lob when through on goal failed.
Meanwhile, Wednesday’s Callum Paterson shot from close range into the ground and over the crossbar with plenty of space to aim for.
In the end, both teams were left to ponder what may have been, but it was a point each in the end, which was disappointing for the home fans in especially.
We shouldn’t have been surprised, though, because Leeds‘ most recent goalless draw in the Championship – prior to their time in the Premier League – came against the same opponents in October 2019 at Hillsborough.
