Anthony Target

After speaking for the first time since arriving at Leeds United on Deadline Day, Jaidon Anthony feels promotion is the obvious goal for his loan term. The Bournemouth winger agreed to a season-long loan move to Elland Road, while Luis Sinisterra went the other way.

The 23-year-old was a crucial figure in Bournemouth‘s promotion-winning season under former manager Scott Parker and will provide much-needed Championship experience to Daniel Farke‘s side. Anthony played 30 times for the Cherries as they won promotion to the Premier League last season, having scored eight goals and given six assists the year before.

Following the draw with Sheffield Wednesday, Anthony told Leeds United: “I’m really excited, it’s all happened so quickly, but I’m buzzing to get in and around the ground and hopefully help the team.” Obviously, we [Bournemouth] were promoted from this level the year before last, and I played a lot of games in it.

“I understand it’s a tough league, very physical and demanding.” It’s very thrilling to return and aim for another promotion.

“Every year, I feel like I’m getting better and better.” Last year was a major step up for me, and I played a lot of games. Hopefully, I can put that to use here.

“Obviously, the goal is to advance. Play as many games as you can to aid the squad, and you’ll be a significant part of some success.”

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke said that the club attempted everything possible to keep Luis Sinisterra at Elland Road this summer, but contractual concerns made it tough.

Farke praised the Whites’ ability to bring in Jaidon Anthony as part of the deal, but emphasised that the two players are not the same.

“Well, you know that I’m always open and honest,” Farke stated after the 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday. “I’ve been praising Luis since I arrived, and we’ve talked about what a player he is and how he can be an outstanding, dominating player at this level.”

“No one would believe me if I said I’m relieved Luis is away. So, obviously, we tried everything to keep him, but we were also open and honest about him.

“His contractual status was difficult. I won’t go into too much detail, but sometimes you have to accept a harsh reality.

“The reality is that we have to accept that he went this route and is currently in Bournemouth.” Then there’s the tough reality of this moment and adjusting to it, and I have to praise the key people in our club because sometimes you feel sorry for yourself when you lose such a crucial player with only a few hours to go, but now we try to find the best possible replacement for him.”
