The 49ers Enterprises, the owners of Leeds United, are running out of time to sell Helder Costa as the Saudi Arabian transfer window is about to close.
Costa hasn’t been named to the Whites‘ matchday squad yet this year, and manager Daniel Farke has made it clear that he won’t be in his future plans.
Despite Saudi interest, “nobody is bothered about Costa” at Elland Road, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay on August 18 when Luis Sinisterra and Wilfried Gnonto‘s names were dominating the gossip pages.
There are now only a few days left for Saudi clubs to finalise deals before the already-confirmed deadline on Thursday [7 September], even if Leeds wants Costa to leave and the player is eager to find a new club.
For what it’s worth, Turkish teams have an extra week to conduct business, but Saudi Arabia has always seemed to be the most likely destination for the Angola international, according to a previous report by Hay from last month.
When you consider that Leeds paid a reported £16 million for Costa in July 2020 after he spent the previous season on loan at Elland Road, the situation is fairly depressing.
The 29-year-old has only made 25 appearances for United since making his move permanent, and he has only scored three goals. The previous two seasons were spent on loan.
Costa‘s continued stay in West Yorkshire when the foreign transfer windows close is just not an option at this time, but ideally, plans are already in place to agree to a transfer to the Middle East soon.
Only then can the chapter on a career in Leeds best forgotten be closed.
