A journalist discusses what he has learned about Eric Dier’s future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Eric Dier is currently down the Tottenham pecking order as Ange Postecoglou pursues his mini-revolution.

Spurs have started the season strongly under their new manager. However, there has been no indication of the seasoned Dier, who has remained at the club despite being linked with a move away.

And, as of now, Alasdair Gold of Football London believes Dier will need to go a long way to establish himself.

Journalist clarifies Eric Dier situation at Tottenham

In response to a query in his current Q&A, one fan focused on Dier and a rumoured meeting with Daniel Levy. However, Gold has explained that meeting and stated that Dier is eager to fight on at Spurs for the time being.

“From what I understand, Eric Dier was summoned for a meeting with Daniel Levy.” “I’m guessing it was to get him out of there before the windows closed,” Gold added.

“Dier wants to fight for his place under Postecoglou, but he would have accepted a loan move if one had been offered to him in order to get game time – reports suggesting a Burnley loan offer arrived were dismissed by the club at the time.”

Further on Dier under Postecoglou, Gold has stated that the new Spurs manager simply does not see Dier as the ideal defender in his system.

“For Postecoglou, Dier simply does not fit the archetype for one of his centre-backs because he lacks the pace to react to balls over the top and down the flanks.” The experienced defender will have to prove otherwise if he gets a chance,” Gold added.

Eric Dier will undoubtedly remain professional at the club, but let’s not forget that he has been a member of a lot of squads under various managers that have all suffered.

Yes, he played well under Pochettino at periods and made a brief comeback under Jose Mourinho at one point. Dier, on the other hand, has never sparkled or stood out.

It’s no surprise that Postecoglou has decided to take a different approach here. Dier will need to make a transfer if he wants to play, and it would not be surprising to see him leave in January.
