Georginio Rutter – “Embarrassing”

To be fair, it was a headline that many would have anticipated to see this season based on Georginio Rutter’s performances last season.

He rapidly became another of Victor Orta‘s disasters, although a spectacular one for a record £36 million. However, it’s possible that it was more of a case of the wrong player at the wrong moment, or a lack of actual coaching philosophy or stability at the club. Many players underperformed during the recent season’s final stretch, but with a club record price tag hanging around his neck, Rutter may have garnered an undue share of the ire of Leeds United fans.

But, while rats have vanished from Elland Road this summer, there have been no murmurs from Georginio Rutter‘s camp. Rutter may not have met our or his own expectations last season, but he is a player hungry to prove his worth this year. Goergi works ‘unbelievable hard,’ as Daniel Farke has observed, and the rewards are beginning to show. Rutter, who was previously an embarrassment to himself, is now regularly embarrassing Championship defenders.

The Watford encounter was another masterclass from the French striker, and while he did not score, he was involved in almost every opportunity Leeds United made. His effort rate and skill eventually resulted to two of our goals, and he should have had one as well. One chance was stopped by the custodian, and another was called out for offside. Daniel Farke praised Rutter after the game, but highlighted the need of knowing when to play with skill and when to play more pragmatically.

With players like Luis Sinisterra leaving, Rutter has the potential to be a true star in the Championship for Leeds United this season, and he is already showing signs of doing so. He is a talented young player playing in a league that appears to suit his style of play. The Championship is a league of possibilities. It’s a league where young players (he’s younger than Crysencio Summerville, after all) may shine. It is a league where players may establish themselves as stars and build a name for themselves.

Georginio Rutter has the potential to be one of Leeds’ key players this season. He has the talent, the determination, and the backing of his supporters and manager. If he can stay fit and focused, he has the potential to be a tremendous force in the Championship this season.
