Although Jordan Henderson’s choice was not the best for Liverpool, Arthur Melo made the right call.

In his ECHO column, Liverpool veteran John Aldridge discusses Jordan Henderson’s selection for England and what Jurgen Klopp needs to accomplish during the break from international competition.

You never know if Liverpool will benefit from the international break. We’ll have to play catch-up with the games that will need to be rescheduled; Wolves and Chelsea will be packed in at some point.

From the standpoint of the squad, it provides us some time to get some players healthy again after an injury. Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, and possibly a couple other players in the midfield.

Joel Matip as well as Diogo Jota have returned. We should therefore have our tried-and-true midfield back by the time the match against Brighton rolls around, and we’ll have strength in numbers behind them.

If I’m being really honest, Jordan Henderson could definitely do without being called up to the England team.

He needs to be controlled because he is suffering injuries. Henderson isn’t an elderly player, but he’s played a lot of games and during the past few years, he’s sustained a few injuries, including a few while playing for England.

Therefore, I wouldn’t want him to travel with the England team from a selfish and Liverpool perspective.

He has likely spoken with both managers, Jurgen Klopp and Gareth Southgate, and been asked how he is doing. Obviously, we are aware of his expertise and experience, but let’s handle him as a player on the field.

Arthur Melo is following my lead to get match-ready.

Since he transferred from Juventus to Liverpool on loan, Arthur Melo hasn’t been around much. I can only rely on my prior playing activities.

I used to play in the reserves at Tranmere Rovers or Liverpool when I was recovering from injuries because I like playing in games.

There is nothing greater than match fitness, which I adored. Training is excellent, but what you really want is match fitness. Despite not being of a high caliber, playing for the Under-21s or reserves puts you in a strong position for when the time comes.

Liverpool has a clear task ahead of it.
What Liverpool needs to do to get back on track and build on their Champions League victory over Ajax to go on a winning streak like they did last year.

Start accumulating clean sheets, teamwork, and expertise on the field, where the balance isn’t quite there.

We are aware that Liverpool has added a few new players. Up forward, there will need to be some adjustment because Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have both been brought in.

Liverpool is the kind of team that can embark on a major winning streak if they can regain their confidence, and certain players will undoubtedly notice their own performances.

I just want to express my gratitude to everyone who supported me at my charity event at the Boavista Golf Club in Portugal over the weekend, including those who traveled from Liverpool and all over the world.

We’re hoping to raise some cash for the locals. Liverpool made suggestions, which are really welcomed.
