Stefan Bajcetic has had a small injury setback, according to Jurgen Klopp.
Bajcetic, who had been AWOL since March, returned to the team last week. However, after not being seen in training yesterday, the 18-year-old appears to be poised for another stay on the sidelines.
This was verified by Klopp during his pre-Tottenham Hotspur press conference this morning.
“Stefan had a little, little, little, little setback,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said. “The issue is that we have to be really cautious. When you’re six months out, it’s only a minor calf problem.
“It’s disappointing for him and for us, but he got another one, so we’ll take him out for a while.” Thiago [Alcantara] is still out, as is Conor [Bradley]. “I believe that’s it.”
Bajcetic has a setback.
While this is bad news for Bajcetic, it does underline how cautious Liverpool must be in this situation.
The Spaniard is without a doubt one of Europe’s top prospects right now. But he’s useless to the Reds if he never plays.
Liverpool are hoping to extend Bajcetic’s career by giving him more time to heal from his lengthy injury earlier this year.
According to reports, the latest issue should not keep the Spain U21 international out for long. However, the Reds should add a few of weeks on top of that to avoid further escalation.
After that, maybe Bajcetic will be able to put these troubles behind him for good.
In any case, it’s highly improbable that the teenager would have played against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow. However, there’s a good probability he’d played against Union Saint-Gilloise in midweek.
As Jurgen admits, this is upsetting and frustrating for Stefan and supporters who want to see him in action. But he’ll be back, and he’ll be better for the rest.
