Max Wober, on loan from Leeds United, impresses as Austria defeats Azerbaijan 1-0.
Max Wober, on loan from Leeds United, played for his country in a UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier on Monday (16 October) in Baku.
Wober‘s Austria team defeated Azerbaijan 1-0, but the victory was far more comfortable than it appeared.
They needed the three points to keep the pressure on group leaders Belgium while also qualifying for the tournament.
This season, the 25-year-old is on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, and his future with Leeds appears to be in doubt.
He is, however, still owned by the Whites, and if Daniel Farke is watching how he performs on international duty, he will be impressed.
Wober, who played in his natural left center-back position, kept the opponents at bay and prevented them from getting a single attempt on goal.
According to Sofascore, he appeared at ease with the ball at his feet, completing 30 passes with an accuracy of 86%.
He even made two clearances and was fouled once, preventing the hosts from getting into scoring positions.
He also won 50% of his attempted aerial and ground duels and avoided being caught out of position, which could have had disastrous results.
Wober will be overjoyed because his team’s clean sheet and three points helped them qualify for the EUROs.
