Leeds United likely to receive a £21 million transfer windfall before the January transfer window closes – Report

Barcelona is expected to pay Leeds United £21 million for Raphinha’s previous transfer before the end of 2023.

The Whites were unable to bring in that much money during the summer window due to the large number of players that were loaned out.

After selling Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips in the summer of 2022, it is apparent from Leeds’ Championship status that the players that replaced them were not up to the requisite standard.

What’s going on with Raphinha these days?

Raphinha moved to Barcelona for £55 million, coordinated by his agent and now Barcelona sports director Deco, and has done well in La Liga thus far, winning the league title in his first season.

He joined Barcelona in the midst of their massive financial problems, sparking financial ‘levers’ to seek key players such as Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, and others.

According to Football Insider, Leeds are set to receive a sizable transfer fee from the Catalan giants before the new year and January transfer window.

They report that Barcelona will pay Leeds £21 million, but this does not imply that the La Liga giants are out of the woods just yet, since more long-term payments are still due in the future.

This follows reports from local outlet Ara that

owed hundreds of millions in transfer fees to Leeds and others, while the Whites pursued the bank to settle the instalments Barcelona had virtually refused to pay, with interest accruing from the bank.

Raphinha was one of the players bought by Barcelona with money they didn’t have in the summer of 2022.

Fortunately for us, it appears that we will not be taken advantage of by Barcelona; otherwise, judicial proceedings would have been lengthy and exhausting.

It’s encouraging to see Raphinha still excelling at Camp Nou, but the 49ers won’t mind as long as they’re getting paid.
