Spurs have two requirements to meet before releasing Hojbjerg.

The speculation surrounding Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is heating up as we approach the January transfer window, and it has now emerged that the North London club requires two things to happen before releasing him.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham Hotspur after being a crucial figure under both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

For Ange Postecoglou‘s side, the Danish midfielder is currently second fiddle to the midfield duo of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.

Hojbjerg appeared to be on his way to Atletico Madrid this summer (Daily Mail), but the move never materialised. According to Football Insider, the player himself rejected down a deadline-day transfer to Fulham.

Now, a ‘disappointed’ Hojbjerg is rumoured to be interested in a January move, with Juventus primed to sign him (CalcioMercato).

However, getting out of the Lilywhites will be difficult for Hojbjerg or any club interested in signing him. Spurs, according to the latest Express report, have two demands.

First and foremost, a successor must arrive before Tottenham considers releasing the 28-year-old in the New Year. Postecoglou’s team will be “depleted” in January since he is “due to lose” both Bissouma and Sarr to the African Cup of Nations.

Hojbjerg is now a far more significant player than he looks to be, and he will inevitably advance “up the pecking order.” As a result, finding a replacement for him would be critical, as Spurs are unlikely to be willing to lose three midfielders at the same time.

Second, any trade involving Hojbjerg must result in a “credible fee” for Spurs. The club had previously requested “in excess of £35m” for the Dane, and there are no indications that this figure has changed.

We cannot let Hojbjerg go until we have a successor, as he will be crucial in the absence of Bissouma and Sarr. If we can act quickly and get a player in early in the window, I believe we can let Hojbjerg go for roughly £30 million and it will be fair for all sides.
