At Nottingham Forest, Orel Mangala has earned the title of “the most complete midfielder.”

That’s the opinion of someone who is quite qualified to comment on Lewis McGugan, a former midfielder with the Reds.

Although Argentina international Nicolas Dominguez and club record acquisition Ibrahim Sangare have given experience to the team this season, McGugan believes Mangala has been the best player after settling in nicely the previous season.

The 26-year-old, who is now a regular starter for Belgium, had a fantastic game for Forest against Luton Town on Saturday, but the home team’s late collapse overshadowed his effort.

“I’m incredibly amazed by him. Last year, he broke out of the team at one time. When he returned, he made a significant difference. In the most recent episode of the Garibaldi Red podcast, McGugan stated, “I think he’s probably the most complete midfielder in the squad.”

“There was a bit of a shift when he initially arrived. With the exception of Ryan Yates, we had a somewhat light midfield. Without us realizing how good of a football player he is, I believe that people assumed he would be what Sangare is.

We’ve learned throughout time that he’s athletic, powerful, and robust, but he also takes the ball in any circumstance. Taking the ball in any circumstance is crucial for any midfield player. He has the confidence to do it, but you will make mistakes and lose it.

“With Sangare present, he may feel confident. To be able to produce and get on the ball more, he does not need to be physically strong. Although he demonstrated his ability at Leeds last year, he would likely want more goals. Getting him in those areas is the goal.

“He will continue to improve and gain self-assurance. I’m rather pleased with what I’ve observed.”
