Tottenham’s pursuit of a Champions League star is now a ‘one to watch.’

Tottenham’s pursuit of a Champions League star is now a ‘one to watch.’

After losing Harry Kane earlier this year, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for various strikers ahead of the January transfer window, and journalist Dean Jones has provided an internal update on their transfer plans while speaking to GIVEMESPORT.

Despite losing Kane before he had even played a competitive game, Ange Postecoglou has gotten a tune out of his team in the first few months of his employment. The north London club will not want to rest on their laurels and risk being overtaken by their rivals, so additional reinforcements may be required in January.

Spurs have survived without Harry Kane thus far.
Kane departed Tottenham during the summer transfer window to join Bundesliga club Bayern Munich for a cost of £100 million, according to Sky Sports. The contract of the England international at Hotspur Way was set to expire next summer, so Daniel Levy had to make the difficult decision to cash in rather than risk Harry departing on a free transfer.

Spurs have been widely linked with various attackers as a result of Kane’s departure, but the Lilywhites failed to sign one during the summer window. Journalist Jones earlier told GIVEMESPORT in August that Spurs were interested in signing Brentford’s Ivan Toney, but the deal fell through. The English forward is presently suspended for violating the FA’s betting rules, but he can return to action in January.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Spurs value both Gent attacker Gift Orban and Lille forward Jonathan David.

However, during his tenure as manager, Postecoglou has primarily used Richarlison and Son Heung-min in a center-forward role, and with the north London side sitting first in the Premier League, there’s little doubt that it’s working.

It would be difficult for Spurs to maintain this form throughout the season and overcome Manchester City, Arsenal, and the rest of the Premier League’s elite sides to the title, so it would not be surprising to see more reinforcements arrive in January. It remains to be seen whether Postecoglou wants to recruit a true striker or stick with his current approach.

Dean Jones status report

Son is off to one of the best starts to a season we’ve seen from the South Korean forward, with his new role in the middle of the attack working wonders. However, with Richarlison as the Spurs’ only real backup option in this position, a couple injuries will be enough to destabilise the present forward dynamic.

Jones has stated that based on what he has heard, the Spurs are searching for a forward, but not exactly a number nine. The journalist goes on to say that Kerem Akturkoglu, who is apparently being pursued by Postecoglou and his recruitment staff, would match the mould that the club is looking for. Jones revealed to GIVEMESPORT…

“Well, Tottenham is currently scouting quite a few players who are capable of adding another attacking edge to their team.” So, there are lots of reports out there claiming that they are scouting him [Kerem Akturkoglu]. It’s not one I’ve heard myself, but it fits exactly what I’ve been told they’re searching for. They’re not looking for a pure striker right now; instead, they’re searching for someone who can play in and around the frontline. So, sure, it’s definitely someone to keep an eye on, especially while Galatasaray is in the Champions League.”

Ange Postecoglou wants more than just a forward in January.
While adding another forward may appear to be the obvious area in which Spurs may benefit from additions, in order to develop a complete squad capable of winning the Premier League, they will need to add quality all over the pitch. When the January transfer window begins, potential outgoings may alter their intentions, but there is one area where they are apparently hoping to add another body.

Journalist Jones also disclosed to GIVEMESPORT that buying a new center-back is Spurs’ top goal in 2024. Micky van de Ven joined the club in the summer, but Postecoglou plainly wants further defensive reinforcements.
