‘I want him,’ says Daniel Farke, who wishes the 24-year-old Leeds player had taken the penalty instead of Bamford.

Following Patrick Bamford’s miss last night, Daniel Farke has stated Joel Piroe is Leeds United’s official penalty taker.

According to Phil Hay, Farke was speaking during his post-match press conference following a 1-0 defeat to Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium.

With the score at 0-0, Bamford won the penalty spot after being hauled down by Ben Pearson inside the box, leaving Paul Tierney no choice but to award a penalty.

Despite missing his past two spot-kicks for the Whites, Bamford instantly expressed his willingness to take it, despite Crysencio Summerville making a similar case.

Unfortunately for Leeds, Bamford’s strike went miles over the crossbar, and Stoke went on to win the game after another corner concede.

Farke claims that Piroe is his go-to penalty taker.
Reflecting on the night’s events, Farke adds Joel Piroe is Leeds’ normal penalty taker, but he wasn’t on the pitch to take them.

“I want Piroe to take it,” he said. Piroe is our main taker, but the substitutions made it harder. Patrick made it with fluid movement. He has prior experience. He accepted responsibility. That’s how football works.”

Whether Piroe is the designated taker or not, Bamford should not be on penalties at Leeds when he is on the pitch given his recent track record.

Bamford failed from 12 yards for the third time in a row at the Bet365 Stadium, having also missed at vital situations against Arsenal and Newcastle United last season.

Summerville was eager to take it, and given his level of confidence, it should have been him. Bamford’s blunder has cost Leeds three points, increasing the gap between them and the top two.
