According to El Universal, Tottenham Hotspur are already planning an offer for Club America center-back Sebastian Caceres when the transfer window opens in January.
While Caceres has thrived in Mexico’s top flight in recent years, it is his recent efforts for Uruguay’s national team that appear to have piqued the interest of Europe’s elite teams.
Tottenham’s interest in the 24-year-old was initially reported earlier this week by Football Insider, who stated that Ange Postecoglou’s men were impressed by the player’s solid performance in Uruguay’s 2-0 win over Brazil during the international break.
Record reported a few days ago that Tottenham and Sevilla are interested in Caceres, and that Club America is becoming increasingly resigned to the player departing in January.
El Universal is the latest media to report on Tottenham’s interest, claiming that the North London club’s desire to sign the defender is well known.
According to the report, the Lilywhites are already ‘preparing an offer’ for Caceres, but it is unclear how much the Premier League club will spend or how much the centre-back is worth.
Signing Caceres based just on a few international performances would be a risk given his lack of experience at the highest level. At 24 years old, he is also close to being a finished product rather than a player with a lot of potential for development like Alejo Veliz.
