‘We have to be patient,’ says Ben Parker after a ‘great’ Leeds player suffers a devastating blow this week.

Daniel Farke confirmed this week that Joe Gelhardt has suffered a hand fracture and may require surgery – and Ben Parker responded to the news on Thursday’s LS11.

Joe Gelhardt

Gelhardt, 21, had battled to break into the starting lineup in recent weeks, missing the last three games. Prior to then, he had been an unused substitute in six of seven matches.

It follows our participation in two of our first four Championship games. But he failed to attract Daniel Farke‘s attention, and his hold on a spot in the side is slipping. A loan in January could be in the works.

Farke stated on Wednesday that Gelhardt suffered a hand fracture in training and that there is a chance he may need surgery – a decision will be made after Gelhardt is evaluated further.

Ex-Leeds defender Parker responded to the news that Gelhardt had sustained the rare injury. He described Gelhardt as a “great talent” and said Leeds needed to be “patient” with him.

“He hasn’t been in the matchday squad for a few games now.” Whether that has anything to do with it, or if it is simply rivalry for places. He was our starting striker in the Premier League a year ago.

“It shows how far we’ve come as a team.”I love Joffy; he’s a great talent, but we have to be patient for him to return, but I hope he returns quickly after his surgery,” Parker remarked on Thursday’s LS11.

Gelhardt is a fantastic artist. His performance in the U21 team shortly after joining Leeds led the club to believe they had a great talent on their hands. But, following a loan spell at Sunderland, he appears to be lacking in confidence.
