Crysencio Summerville claims that at Leeds United, he sought to take Georginio Rutter under his wing in the same way that Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha did for him.
Summerville was chatting with leedsunited.com on his partnership with Rutter, which has grown significantly over the course of the season.
Both have been among Leeds‘ greatest players this season, ranking first and second in the Championship for goal contributions from Daniel Farke‘s side.
With six goals and four assists, Summerville has 10, and with three goals and five assists, Rutter has eight. On the pitch, they appear to be developing a telepathic connection.
Rutter has also assisted on three of Summerville’s goals, and it is apparent that their understanding is improving by the week.
Summerville on playing with Rutter
Summerville discusses his relationship with Rutter, saying that after a rocky start to his Leeds career, he took him under his wing and is now reaping the dividends.
“One of my friends from back home actually played alongside Georginio at Hoffenheim, so when he arrived, I knew who he was and took him under my wing,” he explained. It’s just clicked between us since then.
“His quality is incredible; he had a difficult time at first, so I tried to help him through it; now he feels at home, and our partnership is flourishing.”
“Players like Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha took me under their wing when I arrived, so for me, it was only right to do the same for the likes of Georginio and Willy.”
So far this season, both players have been a joy to watch, and it is evident that they are a step beyond what most Championship defences can handle.
It’s also encouraging to learn that Summerville sought to assist Rutter during his difficult start at Leeds, citing Phillips and Raphinha as examples when he was in the same situation.
If one thing is certain, it is definitely working, as Rutter now appears to be at home in Leeds, both on and off the pitch.
