After being linked with a move to Tottenham, the ‘devastating’ winger is now likely to sign a new contract.

Despite recent ties to Tottenham Hotspur, Albert Gudmundsson is expected to sign a new contract with Italian club Genoa.

According to Fabrizio Romano, who revealed the news on X.

 

Gudmundsson will sign a new contract with Radu Dragusin, who has also been connected with clubs around Europe, according to Romano.

Prior to this update, Tottenham were reported to be at the top of the queue for Gudmundsson, who is now thriving in Serie A.

Kevin Strootman, the Icelandic international’s teammate, recently described the winger as “devastating,” describing him as a player on the rise.

And, while Gudmundsson’s diverse and creative skill set appeared to be ideal for a manager like Ange Postecoglou, he appears to be staying put.

Perhaps Gudmundsson‘s new contract at Genoa will include a release clause that will pique Tottenham‘s interest, but that is all speculation for the time being.

One thing is certain: Postecoglou has to add to his team as quickly as possible.

Spurs’ manager is still in the early stages of establishing a squad, but some difficult injuries may have accelerated that process.

Despite interest from Tottenham, Gudmundsson is poised to sign a new contract with Genoa.

Micky van de Ven and James Maddison had already established themselves as important members of Tottenham‘s spine after only a few months with the club.

Tottenham just do not have the appropriate replacements with both now out till the new year.

Eric Dier and Giovani Lo Celso, the two most obvious candidates for their positions, were previously connected with departures by the club.

Postecoglou is now forced to rely on players who aren’t quite in his image.

Tottenham are keen on Brighton Hove Albion‘s Evan Ferguson, who is regarded as a long-term replacement for Harry Kane.

However, considering the potential cost of such transaction, the problem for Tottenham in January and beyond is evident.

Tottenham fans may be disappointed to learn that Gudmundsson, a player who may be exciting under Postecoglou, is set to sign a new contract with Genoa.

However, the Spurs will have plenty of options to pursue, and their hunt may potentially be hastened.
