The Premier League’s absolute worst player is now the player Liverpool sold for £12.5 million.

By the time Leicester paid an eight-figure sum to purchase Ward, he had only appeared in two league games for Liverpool. Since joining the Foxes, Ward has received little playing time, having appeared in just one league game prior to this season

However, this summer’s sale of Kasper Schmeichel opened the door for Ward to take over as Leicester’s top goalkeeper this season.

This was it; the Welshman was about to establish himself in the Premier League and prove why, based on a small number of senior appearances, he was valued at $12.5 million.

Unfortunately, Ward’s situation hasn’t quite turned out that way.

Ward is now eight games into this season and already seems completely out of his element. He’s given up 22 goals thus far, and even on Monday against Nottingham Forest, when he maintained his first clean sheet of the year, it was a shaky performance with a few scares.

According to WhoScored’s rankings, Ward is presently the second-worst player in the Premier League, only below Emmanuel Dennis. However, the Nigerian has only played 88 minutes this season, so it would be unfair to compare him to Ward.

As much as we loathe to say it, Ward has more than earned the distinction of Premier League’s worst player this season. It’s incomprehensible that any team would spend even £1 million for him at this stage, much less more than ten times that amount.

Liverpool is the master at extracting the most out of player transactions, and by selling Ward for such a high price, it appears that they have pulled off another theft.
